Mountain climbing / trekking experiences in Munnar. Munnar isn’t known for technical rock climbing (like in the Himalayas), but it’s famous for high-altitude treks and peak climbs across the Western Ghats.

    1. Anamudi Peak Trek (8,842 ft – Highest in South  India)

  • Nicknamed the “Everest of South India”.

  • Located inside Eravikulam National Park.

  • Trek route length: ~7–8 km (moderate to tough).

  • Requires Forest Department permission.

  • Stunning views of grasslands, shola forests, and rare wildlife (Nilgiri tahr).

    2. Meesapulimala Trek (8,661 ft – 2nd Highest in South India)

    • Very popular trekking peak near Munnar.

    • Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site (Western Ghats).

    • Access via Kolukkumalai or Rhodo Valley route.

    • Length: 12–15 km depending on the route (moderate difficulty).

    • Offers cloud-bed sunrises and panoramic views of misty valleys.
       You can book through the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC).


    3. Kolukkumalai Trek (7,130 ft – World’s Highest Tea Estate)

    • Famous for its sunrise trek.

    • Shorter climb (~2 km) if using jeeps from Suryanelli; or longer adventure trek (~12–14 km) via Kurangani, Tamil Nadu.

    • Great for those who want a mix of mountains + tea plantations.


    4. Chokramudi Peak Trek (7,200 ft)

    • Known as the “lone warrior” peak of Munnar.

    • Short trek (~3–4 km, 3–4 hours).

    • Great option if you want a half-day mountain hike.

    • Stunning panoramic views, less crowded than Anamudi or Meesapulimala.


    5. Top Station Trek

    • At the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border.

    • Moderate trek (~6–7 km).

    • Famous for valley views, Kurinjimala sanctuary, and distant Western Ghats.

    • Great sunrise/sunset spot.


    6. Lockhart Gap & Attukad Waterfalls Trails

    • Easier treks for beginners.

    • Rolling hills, tea plantations, and misty mountain trails.

    • Not hardcore mountain climbs, but good half-day nature hikes.
